LAST TRAIN TO NIBROC
Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 @ 7:30 PM
The play begins on a cross-country train headed back east in 1940. A young serviceman — recently discharged due to his epilepsy but still wearing his uniform — is chatting up a traveling small-town girl from Kentucky, recently disappointed in love.
The pair, Raleigh and May, are sharing their conveyance with F. Scott Fitzgerald and Nathanael West. The famous writers, though, are not in a neighboring seat. Both being recently deceased, they're together in the baggage car. Still, their famous if ghostly presence seems to have emboldened Raleigh, who dreams of being a great writer himself. Getting published, though, would surely be a good deal easier than piercing the defenses of May, a religious young lady with a clear-eyed view of her assigned place in the world.
