How to find us
We're located in Heritage Square in the heart of Portage la Prairie, directly north of the Royal Bank building. School tours can be booked by appointment. If you have recently moved to our city and would like to get more information as to what the Glesby Centre is all about, please drop by and we would be happy to give you a tour and tell you about our programming.

Rental Information

The William Glesby Centre is available for business meeting rentals, small trade shows, special events and weddings. Please call our Executive Director, Jerry Maksymyk at (204) 239-5591 for booking availability & rates.

Professional Traveling Venues

The William Glesby Centre has had the privilege of hosting some of Canada's finest performers over the years. We are a 456 seat venue with state of the art sound system, performance lighting and a large stage suitable for dance troupes, theatre companies and other performers. We are conveniently located on the Trans-Canada highway, only one hour west of Winnipeg. If your group is looking for an additional venue rental please contact us. 

Performers

The William Glesby Centre hosts a five concert MainStage Series with Canadian performers, a four concert CoffeeHouse Series where we book "Manitoba only" performers, a Childrens Series, The "Hot Stars of Country Series" with top name country performers as well as a number of "one of" shows. If you would like to be considered for a possible booking please send a copy of a current CD and Bio to us at the above address. Our programming committee reviews submissions on an ongoing basis. We are also a strong supporter of the Manitoba Arts Network and try to book a number of performers thru their directory of artists. We keep all information on file for future use. We'd love to hear from you and have you on our performer contact list.

PERFORMANCE SPACE

 456 seats in-house, consisting of a tiered seating section containing 246 seats. And an additional 210 seats are located on the floor level.

A number of seating options are available where tiered seating can be located closer to the stage for more intimate concerts.

If our venue’s performance sound console is placed on the floor area we lose 6 seats of the above number.

Our theatre audience area is multi-functional and the riser seating can be folded to allow for multiple table set-up. The room can accommodate up to thirty, 5' round tables with chairs for a seating capacity of up to 240 people.

 

STAGE

With front curtains open stage measures 36' across and 20' deep

With front curtains closed stage area measures 36' across and 14' deep within the curtained area

Wheelchair access on one side and stair access on the other

Sprung stage is floored with a masonite covering on a 1.5” plywood base

Masking is provided by 8’x12’ hard flats

Black theatre curtains, three flys on either side and motorized front curtains

 

LOADING AREA

 A loading ramp to accommodate truck/trailer back-up is accessed through an overhead door into a load room. Access to the stage is through an 8’ wide overhead door. Easy, one level load-in area.

 

DRESSING ROOMS

Two dressing rooms on the second level backstage with a separate common washroom. The dressing rooms have 7 make-up positions with mirrors and surround lighting at each position, as well as one hairdresser chair in one of the dressing rooms.

 

Hanging garment/costume storage, ironing boards, iron, and a sink in each room.

 

BOARD ROOM/"GREEN ROOM"

Our dual function Board Room/ “Green Room” located directly behind the stage has seating for 16 people, with a large boardroom table for 12 people, comfortable chairs, fridge, and it’s own washroom.
